There's a reason why a strange pyramid-shaped structure
has recently appeared atop Warren's yet unfinished parking
garage.
According to Don Wig, project superintendent, the structure
is actually framework for the roof that will adorn the
garage's main tower. The main tower will be located
on the garage's south side and will house both an elevator
and a set of stairs.
Wig added that a pair of shed roofs are also sitting
on top of the parking garage, waiting to be placed atop
the two towers located at opposite corners of the garage.
These towers will both contain stairs.
Wig estimated that around the middle of August all
three roofs will be attached to their respective towers.
Until then, he said, the roofs will be sheathed with
plywood, structural steel landings for the main tower's
elevator will be constructed, and frames will be installed
to support the glass that will enclose the two stair
towers.
Work on approaches, driveways, and landscaping for
the garage will all begin relatively soon, added Wig.
"Right now, everything is going to happen soon,"
said Wig, laughing.
At present, construction workers are pouring concrete
for the garage's curbs and finishing construction on
the garage's three towers. Workers have already finished
pouring concrete for each of the garage's five levels
this summer.
Overall, Wig noted that construction on the parking
garage has been going "pretty good."
"We haven't had any major setbacks. The weather's
been cooperating," he said.
