Developer finding plenty of interest in downtown housing for seniors
Chuck Hayes Warren Times Observer - 10/21/2004

Allegheny Point is due to open by the end of the year and there will apparently be plenty of people waiting to move in.

Located adjacent to Soldiers and Sailors Park, Allegheny Point will offer 20 one- and two-bedroom housing units for persons 62 and older who meet income guidelines.

Susquehanna Valley Development Group, developer for "Impact Warren," has been fielding questions from prospective tenants and Paula Fornwalt said there should be no problem filling the downtown housing units.

"Things are going pretty well," said Fornwalt.

Fornwalt said it is still not too late to file an application for occupancy at Allegheny Point.

Susquehanna Development will handle the notification of people who are accepted as Allegheny Point's first tenants, Fornwalt said. For a single person, the maximum allowable yearly income is set at $20,400.

For two people to qualify for a one- or two-bedroom apartment at Allegheny Point, the combined household annual income can be no more than $23,280 per year.

Those who do not meet the income guidelines may still be eligible for units at a second downtown apartment building on the eastern end of the same block. Liberty Street-West will offer 18 to 24 market rate apartments which will be open to anyone, regardless of age or income.

Rent at Alleghyeny Point will be adjusted to income and will include all utilities except telephone and cable television.

There will be a community room and the Warren Senior Center will be located on the lawn level of the building facing Breeze Point Landing. However, there will not be meals or any level of medical care available at Allegheny Point.

All apartments will be handicapped accessible and there will be an on-site laundry and airlock security entrance system. Both Allegheny Point and Liberty Street-West will have street-level retail and commercial space.
